The intervention area is located at Corfu airport in Greece. The area is subject to severe stress, urged by the traffic of particularly heavy vehicles such as in this case aircraft, which in similar areas perform maneuvers and steering. It is also necessary to resist atmospheric agents and chemical aggression, such as that generated by the disgee used to secure aircraft during low temperatures. It was therefore decided to use the DRACOBIT system as a solution that can meet these needs.
As a first step, a rapid drying bituminous primer was applied in order to obtain an even more clinging effect of the next product. She then cleaned the surface with a mechanical sweeper to remove dust on the track. Through the use of a vibrofinishing machine, the bituminous conglomerate with a thickness of at least 4 mm has been applied.
After 24 hours from the laying of the new open porous bituminous layer (with interstitial voids from 20 to 26%), the DRACOBIT cement clutter was prepared, through the use of a continuous mixer without pressure. The application of the mixture took place by pumping and purging on the asphalt support, a rubber spatula was then used in order to have a uniform application throughout the surface avoiding the formation of “puzzang” on the area.
The complete cening took place in two phases: in the first it was filled half the thickness of the floor in draining asphalt and after at least two hours the other half was applied, to fill all the voids until complete saturation.
After 12 hours and before 24 hours the entire surface was mechanically cleaned with a brush to remove dust and deposits in order to reveal the top of the aggregates.
After 48 hours the flooring was completely passable.
In this case, since it is an airport area, for precautionary reasons 72 hours were expected and a check was made to check the correct maturation of DRACOBIT.
