Description
Condition of the Flooring Before Repair
In the logistics center, multiple cracks and wear were observed on the polished concrete flooring due to prolonged use and heavy traffic from forklifts, reach trucks, and personnel. The cracks and surface deterioration not only affected the aesthetics but also posed risks of moisture and chemical penetration, leading to structural weakening. A timely repair was required to ensure the durability and reliability of the flooring.
Before filling the cracks, the surface was refreshed through re-polishing using diamond discs. This process removed the compromised top layer and prepared the surface for subsequent repairs.
Technologies and Materials Used
Two high-tech solutions were employed for the rehabilitation of the flooring:
EP FIX – Structural Epoxy Adhesive
- Two-component thixotropic epoxy adhesive.
- Provides structural bonding without shrinkage.
- High mechanical strength and chemical resistance.
- Used for filling and restoring concrete cracks.
PAVILITIUM – Lithium Impregnator and Concrete Sealer
- Ready-to-use liquid product based on lithium silicate.
- Penetrates concrete, forming a crystalline structure that increases mechanical strength.
- Reduces moisture absorption and prevents dusting.
- Ensures long-lasting protection against wear and chemical exposure.
Implementation Process
1. Grinding and Surface Preparation
The first phase involved mechanically refreshing the surface through re-polishing with diamond discs. This removed the compromised top layer and created a uniform base for subsequent crack filling.
2. Crack Filling with EP FIX
After grinding, all cracks were carefully cleaned and filled with EP FIX. Thanks to its thixotropic consistency, the material was applied with precision, even in difficult-to-access areas. Once cured, the repaired surface provided a solid and durable base for the next step.
3. Treatment with PAVILITIUM
After crack repair, the surface was treated with PAVILITIUM. The product was evenly applied using a cleaning machine with a felt pad. Through circular motions, the solution penetrated deep, creating a protective crystalline layer that improved the mechanical strength of the flooring. Within 12 hours of the final application, the surface was ready for full load capacity.
Results and Benefits
- Extended service life of the flooring – enhanced resistance to mechanical stress.
- Improved safety and convenience – elimination of risks related to cracks and dust formation.
- Reduced need for future maintenance – thanks to chemical stability and deep lithium silicate impregnation.
- Enhanced aesthetics – polished finish ensuring better resistance to contamination and easier cleaning.
Conclusion
The use of EP FIX and PAVILITIUM enabled the effective restoration and long-term protection of the industrial concrete flooring. The improved surface ensures an optimal working environment for logistics operations while minimizing future maintenance costs. This project demonstrates how innovative solutions in construction chemistry can significantly extend the lifespan of industrial floors without the need for costly and labor-intensive repairs.
