Foundation Waterproofing for a Residential Building in Sofia: An Effective Solution for Excavations Reinforced with Soldier Piles

The excavation for a residential building with one level of underground parking in Sofia was reinforced using the "Soldier Piles" technology. This is a proven, effective system for temporary excavation support in urban environments, which minimizes space loss and ensures rapid execution.

What Is Excavation Reinforcement with Soldier Piles?

This method involves steel profiles placed at regular intervals, with either timber lagging or sprayed concrete. The profiles can be driven dynamically (using vibratory hammers) or installed in pre-drilled holes. The system is preferred for narrow urban plots and deep excavations, as it exerts minimal impact on adjacent areas. Despite its advantages, the method is often used as a temporary solution and requires additional measures when dealing with high groundwater levels.

Waterproofing with Amphibia 3000 GRIP: The Ideal Solution for These Conditions

For the foundation waterproofing in this project, the Amphibia 3000 GRIP, an innovative multilayer EPDM-based membrane, was used. The roll width of 1.80 meters ensures half the seam length compared to conventional membranes.

One of the key reasons the investor chose the Amphibia 3000 GRIP waterproofing membrane is its unique structure and properties, making it exceptionally suitable for excavations reinforced with Soldier Piles:

  • Absolute Waterproofing: The technology ensures protection against water migration, even with fluctuating groundwater levels.
  • Self-Healing: In case of accidental mechanical damage, the membrane restores its waterproofing, ensuring reliable protection.
  • Flexibility and Strength: The system adapts to construction movements, preventing cracks and loss of effectiveness.
  • Easy and Quick Installation: The membrane does not require heating, simplifying the installation process and reducing execution time. The only necessary tools for installation are a utility knife, a stapler with 6 mm staples, a polyurethane gun, a 1-meter aluminum ruler, a 5 cm wide roller, and a pressure roller.

The choice of the Amphibia 3000 GRIP waterproofing membrane was also influenced by another of its key features – it can be applied even during rainfall without compromising its properties or requiring a pause in the work until the foundations dry completely.

The Investor’s Commitment to High-Quality Technologies

The investor in this project demonstrates a commitment to quality construction, selecting modern and reliable technologies to ensure a durable and sustainable final product. This approach includes the use of innovations like Amphibia 3000 GRIP, offering not only excellent protection but also efficiency during implementation.
This project is an example of how combining proven engineering methods with high-tech solutions can lead to lasting and sustainable results.
