BMW Group Plant Araquari was BMW's first automotive manufacturing facility in South America and, at the time of its construction, one of the most rapidly delivered industrial construction projects in Brazil.

Located in Araquari, Santa Catarina, the facility comprises approximately 113,000 m² of built area, including a 55,000 m² assembly plant with concrete floors reinforced with BarChip macro synthetic fibres.

Completed in 2014, the project was delivered using Lean Construction methodologies, BIM coordination and precast concrete systems. The construction strategy focused on accelerating project delivery, reducing labour requirements and improving overall construction efficiency across the facility.

BarChip Instead of Traditional Steel Mesh Reinforcement

To support the fast-track construction programme, BarChip macro synthetic fibre reinforcement was used in the industrial concrete flooring instead of traditional steel mesh reinforcement.

Eliminating the need to place steel reinforcement mesh across large floor areas helped simplify construction logistics, reduce site movements and improve installation efficiency.

Fibre Reinforcement Supporting Lean Construction

The use of macro synthetic fibre reinforcement aligned closely with the project's Lean Construction objectives. Reduced material handling, fewer site activities and simplified reinforcement installation contributed to a more efficient construction process while maintaining the performance requirements of a modern automotive manufacturing facility.

More than a decade after completion, the BMW plant in Araquari remains a benchmark industrial facility and an example of how concrete floors reinforced with macro synthetic fibres can contribute to faster construction, improved productivity and streamlined project delivery.

If you are considering BarChip macro synthetic fibres for industrial concrete flooring, we can provide technical consultation and calculate the required fibre dosage according to the specific project and design requirements.
