Bikol® PVA is an economical, fast-drying adhesive, sealer, and bonding agent, as well as an admixture for cementitious mixes with multiple construction applications. It complies with BS 5270 requirements.

Areas of Application

  • As an adhesive for most common building materials.
  • As a bonding agent for cement screeds and renders.
  • As an admixture for mortar and concrete mixes.
  • As a surface sealer and dust proofer.

Adhesive

Bikol® PVA bonds most commonly used construction materials, except PVC, rubber, and polyethylene – both to each other and to other surfaces.

Bonding Agent

Bikol® PVA provides excellent adhesion between cement screeds, renders and concrete, stone, or brick, as well as between new and old concrete, without the need for mechanical roughening.

Admixture

When used as an admixture in cement and granolithic screeds, Bikol® PVA enhances strength and provides a joint-free, durable surface.

Surface Sealer

Applied to porous concrete, plaster, or granolithic floors, Bikol® PVA acts as a dust proofer and improves surface resistance.

Features and Benefits

  • Multiple uses in construction from a single product.
  • Economical and easy to use.
  • Excellent adhesion properties.
  • Fast drying.

Technical Data / Typical Properties

Bikol® PVA is an opaque, white, water-based liquid – a high-viscosity, externally plasticised polyvinyl acetate emulsion providing good flexibility and film strength.

Instructions for Use

As an Adhesive

Apply Bikol® PVA to both surfaces, diluted with an equal part of water. Allow it to become tacky before pressing the surfaces firmly together.

For wood-to-wood bonding, apply a thin layer of undiluted Bikol® PVA to one surface and press firmly. For large areas (e.g. laminated plastic), pressure or weights may be required until full cure (typically 24 hours, depending on porosity).

Coverage

Application Dilution COVERAGE
As primer / adhesive Undiluted 1 L / 6–12 m²
  1:1 1 L / 12–24 m²
  1:3 1 L / 18–36 m²

Note: Coverage may vary depending on surface texture and porosity.

As a Bonding Agent for Screeds and Renders

The substrate must be sound, clean, and free from grease or loose material. Apply Bikol® PVA (see table above) and allow to dry. Then apply a bonding coat of 1 part Bikol® PVA to 2 parts water (1:1 on less absorbent surfaces). Apply the screed or render while the bonding coat is still tacky and allow it to cure fully.

Note: On non-absorbent surfaces (such as polished granite), the sealing coat may be omitted and the bonding coat used at a 2:1 ratio (Bikol® PVA : water).

Bonding New Concrete to Old

Ensure the surface is stable, clean, dry, and free from grease or weak material. Apply a sealing coat of Bikol® PVA diluted with 3–5 parts water and allow it to dry. Then apply a bonding coat according to the degree of porosity before placing the new concrete.
